How to split a bill with tip
1. Start with the pre-tip total
Use the bill amount before tip. Tax is usually already included on the check.
2. Pick a tip percentage
In the US, 15–20% is standard for table service; 18% is a common default for groups.
3. Divide by the number of people
Add the tip to the bill and divide the total evenly. If orders differ a lot, split item by item instead.
